Frequently Asked Questions
Invisalign utilizes a series of comfortable, removable and invisible aligners to straighten your teeth. Practically no one can tell that you are wearing them, making it easier to smile during treatment. Invisalign utilizes 3D computer imaging technology to show you what your teeth will look like during the process of gradually moving them. This technology has been proven effective. Approximately 70% of orthodontists in North America are certified to use Invisalign for treatment.
For many individuals, Invisalign is the ideal choice. The aligners are removable and invisible, therefore, one can drink and eat what they want during the treatment process. As well, this design ensures that flossing and brushing are not an issue. Since there is no metal to cause abrasions during treatment, the aligners are extremely comfortable. Patients appreciate the fact that their cheeks and inner lips are not rubbed raw, as is often the case with traditional braces.
Since there are no metal wires to deal with, generally this translates to less time receiving adjustments. As well, Invisalign enables patients to view their own virtual treatment plan right from the start, and have a picture of how straight their teeth will be once treatment is finished.
Each set of aligners is worn for approximately 2 weeks. They are only removed to drink, eat, floss and brush. As you replace each aligner with the next one in the series, your teeth will move a tiny bit, week by week, until eventually, they have straightened to their final positions.
Most patients schedule a visit with their doctor once every 6 weeks to make sure that the treatment is progressing properly as planned. The complete treatment time usually lasts 9 to 15 months. The number of aligners varies from case to case but is typically between 18 to 30 aligners. Give us a call today and we will be happy to book a consultation and discuss your mouth in detail.
