The average time spent in orthodontic treatment is 18-24 months. However, the actual time YOU will spend in treatment depends on several factors.
1. Timing of treatment – For some patients, early treatment before all adult teeth are in may be beneficial to correct specific, time-sensitive orthodontic issues. Although the total treatment time may be longer in these cases, this interceptive phase of treatment usually reduces, simplifies, or even eliminates the “braces phase”. Of course, each patient is different so Dr. Pollard will make sure to recommend the best options for you.
2. Severity of case – Simply put, the more orthodontic issues you have that require correcting, the longer it will take. Treatment times can vary significantly depending on how much work is required and how fast your body responds. Since every patient reacts to treatment in their own way, it may only take one patient a year to complete the treatment; however, it may take someone else 2 years or more.
3. Compliance – Closely following all instructions provided to you by Dr. Pollard and the MCO team is probably the most important factor contributing to the length of your treatment. By consistently taking care of your appliances and wearing elastics, you will definitely make your treatment shorter.
